Patton explained that water pollution is a growing problem in rural areas. Farmers continue to use lakes as dumping grounds for nitrogen- and phosphorus-containing fertilizers that make the water unsafe for swimming and fishing. Patton painted the seriousness of the situation and pointed out that her co-founder was able to play in the lake in the past. When she was a child she used to go swimming and fishing in the lake but now she can no longer do these things with her children because the water is too polluted.
